Easy Chunky Hat

I found this great hat Amy at The Lovely Things posted. (I'm posting her photo)

She found it at the London Loop Knit Lounge where apparently there's a straight needle and circular  needle pattern, but I couldn't find either pattern.   So I took the straight needle pattern from Amy's blog and converted it to a pattern for circular needles pattern.   I also changed the stitch count and decreases as the pattern wasn't working out for me as written.

The finished toque brim measures 19″ around and 9″ from top to bottom.
What you need to know:

Supplies:
Super bulky weight yarn (I used Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick & Quick in Hudson Bay)
7mm circular needles (7mm are hard to find in US – try 8mm, but will make hat larger in size),
16” length
7mm double pointed needles or longer circular needles (for magic loop method)
Scissors
Tapestry needle
[for circular hat pattern – need same size double pointed needles 7mm or 8mm]

What to do:
Brim
Cast on 56 stitches, join in the round.
Knit 2, Purl 2 and repeat on each row until you have about 2 inches or until the brim is as wide as you want it to be.
Remember that when you start a new row you need to follow the same stitch as you see. As in if the 2 stitches below where you are are purled, then you need to purl the 2 that will be above it to keep the ribbed look going. This is helpful for if you can’t remember what stitch you’re on!
Body
Knit all rows
Crown
Row 1: Knit 5, K2tog, repeat to end (48 stitches total)
Row 2: Knit
Row 3: Knit 4, K2tog, repeat to end (40 stitches left)
Row 4:
Knit
Row 5: Knit 3, K2tog, repeat to end (32 stitches left)
Row 6:
Knit
Row 7: Knit 2, K2tog, repeat to end (24 stitches left)
Row 8:
Knit
Row 9: Knit 1, K2tog, repeat to end (16 stitches left)
Row 10:
Knit
Row 11: K2tog, repeat to end (8 stitches left)
Cut yarn leaving about a 10 inch tail. Thread yarn onto a tapestry needle and carefully remove knitting needle. Run tapestry needle through the remaining 8 stitches and pull tight to close. Pull end through to wrong side and weave in.
I made a pom-pom with a Pom-Pom maker.   I used the Clover size large pack, smaller of the two in the set.

my first MFT Stamps Sketch Challenge

I decided to give the My Favorite Things sketch challenge a try   I really thought I had more image stamps from MFT, turns out most of my MFT products are sentiment stamps and dies (better get shopping!) .  I have the Cool Cat set and needed a birthday card for my niece who LOVES cats so here's her card and my Sketch Challenge submission.

I decided not not cut off the side of the circle for this one.  I had a lot of fun with this sketch and will be using it again for sure!

Fall Coffee Lover's Blog Hop

Two of my favorite things in one...coffee and card making!   Here are my entries for the 2017 Fall Coffee Lovers Blog Hop.  This is such a fun blog hop - lots of entries and lots of prizes to be won!  Head over and submit your fall themed coffee cards!

I already linked up my submissions from my Flickr account, but then decided to post on my very neglected blog that I hope to bring back to life.

For this card I used Lawn Fawn's How You Bean? stamp set and coordinating die set and turned what was supposed to be Jelly Beans into Coffee beans,  I colored them with Copics and used a black multi-liner to create the coffee bean lines.

For the "need I say more?" card I used an older Hero Arts wood block stamp for the coffee cup and a sentiment from Your Next Stamp's Java Geek stamps set.  The patterned papers are from a Jen Hadfield 6x6 paper pack and the stamped background is a new Hero Arts stamp that I just got called Starry Night Brush Strokes Bold Prints and I stamped it in gold Delicata ink.

y third card is my favorite of the three.  I used a Christmas Holiday Coffee stamp and die set from Hero Arts and turned it into a fall set.   I fussy-cut the leaves from an older Stampin' Up fall patterned paper.   The other patterned papers are from another fall themed 6x6 paper pad by Jen Hadfield that I got in Joann's.

Simon Says Stamp - 10 cards/1 kit

Hi everyone.  I decided to jump on the 10 cards/1 kit bandwagon.
I've been getting Simon Says Stamp card kits since I believe 2013.  I did take some time off from card making for a while so I did stop the kits for a time period.  Anyway, I realized that I was using the stamp sets and saving everything else...for what, I have no idea.  I have so many boxed up kits on my shelves so I've challenged myself to use the older kits so you'll be seeing some of that on my blog in the future.

I got the 10 cards 1 kit idea from Vicky Papaioannou ( I hope I spelled that right).  So here's my first stab at the 10 cards 1 kit using Simon Says Stamp November card kit, which I think is my favorite SSS kit that I've gotten to date.

The kit came with 4 card stock sheets which would make 8 card bases so I added a few things from my stash in to stretch the kit out to make 10 cards.  I added a speckled white, dark brown and rust colored card base from my basket of card bases I keep on my craft table and I added a piece of copper foil card stock.because I really wanted to see how the embossing folder would work on the foil card stock.  I also used some other stamps I had just so I didn't have 10 thank you themed cards.

here are my cards from the November 2106 Simon Says Card Kit:

For my first card I selected some distress ink colors that matched the patterned papers and used distress watercolor paper for a resist technique.

I

This floral paper below immediately reminded me of a stamp set from a SSS kit from years ago and I did have the matching flower die to the stamp set so used that to cut the patterned papers from the kit.  I'm not sure if it's still available.

I used a white shimmery pigment ink pad on the embossed card background to highlight the embossed flowers.   I also pulled out a brand new SSS you die and stamp set for the sentiment.  The stamp and die set are called "You Matter" and I believe it was design by Laura Bassen.

I played up the quilted design of this patterned paper by adding the stitching die as well as some hand drawn stitching on the tag.

Here is where I embossed the copper foil card stock,  I used the gold stickles from the kit for the sequin centers.  (sequins not in the kit).  The miss you is die cut from the schoolhouse red card stock in the kit from a die I had on hand.  I think it's by Avery Elle.

This camera paper immediately made me think of this stamp set that I won a couple of years ago and hadn't used.   I also have been dying to try making a shaker card..  So here's my very first shaker card and my 10th card kit card.

Thanks for stopping by my blog.

Simon Says Stamp August 2016 card kit

I recently got back to card making after much too long of a break and wow, I haven't posted on my blog in 3 years!!! Really???
I back and today I'm sharing a card I made with the Simon Says Stamp August card kit, Seeing Stars.   When I first saw this kit I thought of the galaxy cards that are getting so popular now and specifically the card Kristina Werner made a while back.  At that time I made a galaxy heart just to learn the technique but did nothing with it.  Today I opened my card kit and used the stamp set in the kit to finish my card.  And by the way the stamp set was also designed by Kristina Werner!  Here's my card...

The Memory Nest Summer Sketch Challenge

Today I'm sharing a card I made for a Scrapbook Layout sketch challenge over at The Memory Nest blog.  It's a layout sketch so I had to modify it a bit to make it work for a card.

You can see the sketch and the other DT's great layouts here

10 Minute Craft Dash #21

Hi everyone.  I have another 10 Minute Craft Dash card to share.  My term on the Design Team has ended, but I love the challenges so much I'm entering as a participant!  This one doesn't have a color theme, but does have the "stars" theme in honor of Independence Day.

I was dying to use my new Stampin' Up! background stamp that I just got in the mail so that was a must use item for this card.   I also used white embossing powder and assorted istress Inks to create the background panel.  This emboss resist technique was probably not the best technique to do for a 10 minute challenge because I ended up having to cut the panel down while it was still kind of damp, even though I did dry it a bit with my heat tool, and the paper started to tear.  Oh well - live and learn.

So here's my card and I just made it with a time of 9 minutes 58.5 seconds.

10 Minute Craft Dash #20!

So my time on the 10 Minute Craft Dash Design Team has come to and end with this last challenge.   It's been great fun and I will definitely be participating in the challenges in the future.

I love the color combo of hot pink, tangerine and gray.  I created a watercolor wash with Stampin' Up! watercolor crayons and then die cut it with a Simon Says Stamp exclusive "fresh daisies" die.

10 Minute Craft Dash #19!

I'm back again today with another 10 Minute Craft Dash Challenge.    I thought I'd be super quick with this one, but it took me a little longer than I thought to hand cut out the umbrellas.  I do love stamping onto patterned paper!

I hope you'll all play along and make sure you link up your entry for a chance to win a prize from a sponsor of the 10 Minute Craft Dash, Timeless Twine.

                                                            Here's my card...
